Read description before bidding!Well, replasing a motherboard always was a tought time consuming project.I bought it for $65 with Pentium 2.8gHz and cooler. That was a good deal, I think.

I was trying to set up Pentium 3GHz with HT, but the board was gettiing so hot and turning off so often that it was impossible to work. My case wouldn't allow it to have better cooling, so I set its old processor back and forget about HT (for me its not a big deal anyway). The good thing about it is variety of processors and memories that can be used with the board. I tryed to use DDR-266, 333 and finaly DDR-400 and everything was run perfectly.Another good thing about the board is 5 PCI slots on it. This was the main reason for me to buy it. 6 slots would be even better, of course, but 5 is fine too. The only disapointment I get when I realized lack of LAN-port on it, so I have to take 1 PCI slot just for LAN card. This is a bummer.

But I should read description more carefully next time before buying something.Besides of this I have no trouble with this board whatsoever.Overall this is a good board, and if you work with old PCI cards it could be the right choice for you. Some What HappyIf I had know the trouble it was going to cause my computer to have this board I would not have bought it. It makes the machine much faster but at a price.

It still locks up and doesn't respond on some programs and none of my old files will transfer to it. Windows had to be loaded on a new hard drive because it would not reload on the old one I guess because it tought it was on another machine. I wanted it to be faster but boy what a pain it has caused. Since I sold my other board I am stuck with it and have to find a way to get my files on it.

I guess the old way loading the programs and reloading the files. I lost it all and thank GOD I have a MAC to find the locked files from the old hard drive and reload the TASX stuff I need. Old hardware for sure, but can run Win7 and LinuxIntel made the D865PERL socket 478 P4 boards in a variety of configurations.

The one I bought is the D865PERLL, with firewire and gigabit LAN and sound on board. These boards have a few quirks with interrupts with XinXP and some tweaking might be required to determine which add-on card goes in which slot. The IRQs seem to be allocated much better and more automatically by Windows 7. I have used these boards for WinXP, Win7, Open Suse Linux, and Mint Debian Linux. Windows 7 and Linux have drivers that will at least get sound out of the sound card. These boards hold 4GB RAM, which really helps in running Windows 7 or a modern Linux distro. But even with a 3.2 GHz CPU, Windows 7 frequently maxes out the CPU usage at 100%, causing some lags while browsing the Internet. That will probably be intolerable to gamers.

But, if you are not a gamer, you can probably tolerate it if the price is right.I'm not planning to build a new PC until at least 2Q 2012. I bought this D865PERLL to replace a plain D685PERL green board. I bought my original PERL board in 2004. Hardware from 2003-2004 is getting a little old and slow now, but it's still pretty good for Internet, email, and MS Office use.Beware of defective capacitors, though. There were defective and counterfeit ones from China and people started seeing capacitor failures in 2006-2007 and later. It affected big name hardware like HP and Intel, as well as the cheapo motherboard companies.

D865 and 875P chipset, socket 478 P4 boards were affected. Motherboard replacement solved all problems. My computer completely died - nothing happened when the power was turned on. The Geek Squad said it was probably the mother board, and I might as well buy a whole new computer (because it was old). My concern was the network it was on and I had some professional software that would need to be updated across all the computers.

Nevertheless, I took my chances, and once I changed the power supply (not the problem), I bought the used mother board on-line. I replaced the motherboard, put in my original CMOS battery which was still charged, and waalaah, it worked like a charm. The seller said it was working past the bios and not being a computer person I didn't know what that meant. All I can say is that it was an excellent product that worked beautifully and it saved me a world of headache, expense and time. Intel D865PERLI Bought This MoBo To Replace A Fried, Intel D865PERL.

I've Never Experianced A Problem With The Past MoBo Until A Powersupply Disruption Caused It's Death. The Best Part Of The Project Was, Since I Replaced A Intel D865PERL With A Intel D865PERL, I Did Not Have To Reinstall Windows.I Read The Other Reviews And I Was Puzzled By Some Remarks, Please Note:Common Sense Tells You If, You Replace A Mother Board With A Mother Board Of A Different Chipset You MUST REINSTALL YOUR OPPERATING SYSTEM!You Can Replace A MoBo Of The Same Chipset With The Same Chipset And You Will NOT Have To Reinstall The Opperating System. But That Is Just Me Being Lazy.All-In-All, The Intel D865PERL Is A Very Stable MoBo And It Matters Not About On-Board Lan Or On-Board Anything For That Matter.
